About Nicola

I started Blackwood Interiors eight years ago with a simple goal to offer a highly personal, creative, and professional interior design service, one that draws on over 20 years of experience.

My path began with a degree in textile design at The Scottish College of Textiles in Galashiels giving me a strong foundation in colour, texture, and the design process.

I then spent four years at two boutique design studios in Scotland learning the workings of the industry whilst working on a range of properties across Scotland. Following this, ten years at two well-respected design studios in Edinburgh and Berkshire, where I had the pleasure of working with wonderful clients, many of whom I still work with, and building long-standing relationships. Along the way, my work has been featured in national newspapers and top design publications, including the Andrew Martin Design Review—a real career highlight.

Blackwood Interiors is built around values of great importance to me, namely collaboration, trust, and creativity. I believe impactful interior design should feel like a conversation, working together to shape a space that is right for you and your family. That means listening closely, sharing ideas, and surrounding myself with skilled, reliable trades and suppliers who are as passionate as I am.

One of the things I value most as a designer is getting to know you, your personality, your lifestyle, and what makes your house a home. With over 20 years in the industry, I’m confident working across a broad spectrum of styles, whether your taste leans towards contemporary, classic, or somewhere in between.

My recent projects range from a contemporary penthouse apartment in London and classical period properties in Edinburgh to new build family homes on Scotland’s west coast and a cosy country cottage in Oxfordshire. Each one is unique, tailored to the client’s vision, and designed to feel stylish yet comfortable.

Throughout each project, I pride myself on delivering thoughtful, high-quality interiors with integrity and care, creating bespoke and meaningful spaces that stand the test of time.
